Attempted Vehicle Theft

Two men have been arrested after deputies say they were caught pushing a truck out of a Kumquat Lane driveway.

According to reports, Jonathan Hylbert, 22, address unknown, and Jason Lafever, 25, 1392 Henderson Creek Drive, were pushing Donald VanZandt’s vehicle out of his driveway around 10 p.m. Thursday when a neighbor, Stanley Bartkowiak, confronted them. Bartkowiak asked what they were doing and the men told him the truck belonged to their grandparents. After questioning them further, Bartkowiak became increasingly suspicious and believed the truck to be VanZandt’s. The men ran away as Bartkowiak began to walk toward VanZandt’s house.

A K-9 unit tracked the scent to Lafever’s home. Deputies saw Hylbert standing outside the house, questioned him and placed him under arrest. Lafever was found a short time later when he was a passenger in a car that was pulled over on a traffic stop at 6650 Collier Blvd.

Hylbert and Lafever are charged with grand theft auto.
