Camouflage Jacket Couldn’t Hide Stolen Purse

Two men were arrested Tuesday after deputies say they stole cell phones, cameras and other items from friends’ trucks during a New Year’s Eve party in Golden Gate Estates.

Brandon Alan Wildfong, 27, 272 Benson St., East Naples, and John Charles Riner, 21, 3565 27th Ave. N.E., Golden Gate Estates, were charged with grand theft, burglary and petty theft.

Reports say a deputy was responding to a call about a wrecked truck at Second Street Northeast and Golden Gate Boulevard around 12:50 a.m. when he saw a Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle parked behind it with two men inside. One of the men was wearing a camouflage jacket with a large object inside, reports said.

Wildfong, told the deputy that he had a purse inside his jacket, but he didn’t know who owned it. The deputy opened the purse and found a woman’s Florida driver’s license inside.

Deputies also found cell phones, cameras and a small bottle of perfume inside the jacket pockets.

A search of Riner, who was in the passenger seat of the Durango, turned up a digital camera, an iPod and a cell phone, reports said.

About a half hour later a car with two men and a woman pulled over in front of Wildfong’s vehicle. All three told the deputy that they were friends of Wildfong and had just left a party that Wildfong and Riner also attended. The woman said her purse and other items were stolen from her boyfriend’s truck. The two men said they had belongings stolen from their trucks, including a camouflage jacket.
