A truck driver was arrested Sunday after deputies say he had sex with a 16-year-old girl in his delivery truck in the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.Michael L. Scott, 27, of New Port Richey was charged with unlawful sexual activity with certain minors.
Reports say deputies on routine patrol spotted a Family Dollar semitruck and trailer parked along Sanctuary Road near the park entrance in Golden Gate Estates around 6:40 p.m.
The truck driver, Scott, who was wearing only a pair of shorts, told deputies that he was en route to Miami to make a delivery and had stopped to take his mandatory break. A girl was also inside the truck.
The girl, who isn’t being identified due to the nature of the charge, told deputies that she was 18. She said she’d had a fight with her mother and had hitchhiked from Atlanta to Collier County, where she was staying with a friend.
Deputies made contact with the girl’s grandmother, who lived nearby. She told deputies that she and the girl’s mother had taken the girl to the sanctuary around 2:30 p.m. to go walking. She said her granddaughter is 16.
The girl then told deputies she met Scott about a month ago on a phone chat line and that they had sex three or four times prior to Sunday.
