Teens Charged With Auto Theft

T wo teenagers were arrested Wednesday and charged with stealing a sport utility vehicle in Golden Gate.

Josh Alan Smith, 16, 3073 Barrett Ave., East Naples, and Roy W. Hansen, 17, 4255 3rd Ave. S.W., Golden Gate Estates, were charged with grand theft auto, burglary and petty theft..

Reports say deputies were patrolling the Pebblebrook community, where there had been a rash of vehicle burlaries over the weekend, around 2:55 a.m. when they came upon a Jeep Grand Cherokee parked at the clubhouse.

Smith was reaching into the SUV and Hansen was walking away from the clubhouse. Both teens were wearing dark clothing.


Smith told deputies he did not own the SUV and did not have permission to enter it.


Further investigation revealed that the SUV had just been stolen from a residence on First Avenue Southwest .

A search of Smith's pockets turned up the keys to the SUV. A search of Hansen's pockets turned up two $20 bills and a purple iPod, which had also been reported stolen from inside the SUV.
