Beer Run Fizzles

A suspected shoplifter’s attempt to steal beer fell flat Monday after she struck the store manager with her car as she tried to make her getaway, deputies said.

Christine Alison Kingma, 21, 3061 4th St. N.E., Golden Gate Estates, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and petty theft.

Reports gave this account:

Michael Drews, a store manager at Sweetbay Supermarket, 2482 Immokalee Road, North Naples, told deputies he watched Kingma put single-serve beers in her purse as he followed her through the store shortly after noon.

Kingma left the store without paying for the beers.

Drews followed Kingma outside to the parking lot, while asking her repeatedly to come back inside the store.

Kingma refused and got inside a gray two-door car, while Drews stood behind the car and wrote down the tag number.

Kingma rolled down her window and asked Drews to move so she could leave. Drews refused.

Kingma then put her car in reverse and struck Drews’ left leg with her car. She stopped her car, got out and opened her purse as if attempting to show him she didn’t have anything inside.
She got back inside her car and drove off.

Deputies later found Kingma at her home, where they arrested her.
