Big Lots Worker Bagged On Theft Charges

A Big Lots employee was arrested Thursday after deputies say she bagged store merchandise for friends without scanning the items for purchase.

Josefa Amaris, 45, 958 Summerfield, was charged with grand theft.

Reports gave this account:

Around 6 p.m. Amaris, who worked the cash register at Big Lots, 2882 U.S. 41 E., East Naples, asked another employee to help her fix a problem on the register.

The employee told deputies he cleared the problem, but found something wrong with the sales receipt. The employee brought it to the attention of the store’s loss prevention officer.

A review of the store’s security camera showed Amaris was allowing patrons to bag items without paying for them.

Amaris, a three-year employee of the store, had been working the register for the past three months. While working at the register, she allowed friends who came into the store to bag items, which she wouldn’t scan, reports said.

Deputies also learned Amaris had used a fake Social Security card to gain employment at the store
