Deputies: Man Pointed Look-A-Like Gun On I-75

A man was arrested Monday after deputies say he pointed a gun that looked like a rifle at a couple while they were driving on Interstate 75.

Scott E. Paris, 31, 190 Pebble Beach Blvd., Apt. 505, East Naples, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Reports say Jeffrey Chaperon told deputies he and his girlfriend Jamie Bintliff were traveling south on Interstate 75 near the 105 mile marker around 1:30 p.m. when they were cut off by a reckless driver in a maroon Jeep Cherokee driven by Paris.

The Jeep Cherokee cut off Chaperon and Bintliff again and sped up. Chaperon, who was the passenger, rolled down his window and he and Paris exchanged words.

Paris stayed back in his vehicle and then pulled up alongside Chaperon and Bintliff’s vehicle. He was pointing what looked like a black barreled rifle with a scope out of the open front passenger side window.

Chaperon ducked and yelled for Bintlilff to duck as well. The Jeep Cherokee then sped off, getting off at the Collier Boulevard exit.

The Jeep Cherokee continued south on Collier Boulevard, stopping in the parking lot of the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce, where he was stopped by deputies and island police.

A search of Paris’ Jeep Cherokee turned up a BB/pellet gun.
