Alley Pursuit Ends In Motorcyclist’s Arrest

A motorcyclist was arrested Thursday after he led deputies on a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 130 mph along Interstate 75.

Charles E. Caldwell, 25, of Fort Lauderdale was charged with fleeing and eluding and failure to have a motorcycle license.

Reports gave this account:

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Miccosukee Police Department around 1 p.m. alerting deputies to a motorcycle pursuit along the Alligator Alley stretch of I-75. Miccosukee police ended the pursuit at the 60 mile marker.

Around 1:15 p.m. a deputy in a patrol car saw a black and yellow motorcycle that matched the description of the bike from the Miccosukee police pursuit traveling around 98 mph west on the Alley near the 75 mile marker.

The deputy turned on his patrol car’s emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the motorcycle, which passed by the deputy. The deputy engaged in a pursuit, reaching speeds in excess of 130 mph.

Several times the driver of the motorcycle, Caldwell, would slow down and look back at the deputy in the patrol car before speeding off.

The deputy pursued the motorcycle to the 100 mile marker, where Caldwell pulled over and was arrested.
