Attempted Burglary Arrest At Bank ATM

Collier County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who they say tried to break into a family’s van while they used the drive-thru ATM at a Golden Gate bank late Monday night.

Leobardo Eder Carillo, 26, 1731 Wellesley Circle, Apt. 4, Golden Gate, was charged with attempted burglary and loitering or prowling.

Reports gave this account:

Yasel Arsides Guerra Veliz told deputies that he parked his green minivan while his wife Nelly got out to use the drive-thru ATM at Bank of America, 5101 Golden Gate Parkway, around 11 p.m.

Veliz said Carillo walked toward the van from the Pollo Tropical restaurant. Veliz told deputies he thought this was suspicious because Carillo had passed the other ATM at the front of the bank.

Veliz said he asked Carillo what he was doing and Carillo replied, “Nothing.” Carillo moved to the back of the van out of Veliz’s site. Veliz’s wife got back inside the van and he hit the lock buttons.

Carillo charged the van and attempted the lift the rear door, where the couple’s small child was seated, bending the right side of the license plate. Veliz accelerated, causing Carillo to release his grip and run away.

Deputies found Carillo hiding in brush in a fenced in area near the bank.
