Deputies: Burglary Puttered To A Stop

An empty gas tank was the least of the problems for two teens who were arrested in North Naples early Sunday with what deputies say were burglary tools and a carload of stolen property.

Carlos Cortes Cuervo, 18, 2083 River Reach Drive, Unit 460, East Naples, and Bladimir Urrego, 17, 534 104th Ave. N., North Naples, each were charged with burglary, grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

Deputies were responding to a report that people were seen leaving what was supposed to be a vacant house on Seagull Avenue in a dark vehicle when they spotted a black Toyota Camry being pushed northward along Vanderbilt Drive. They stopped and asked Urrego, who was behind the wheel of the car, why Cuervo was pushing it. Urrego said he and Cuervo had just left the beach and had run out of gas.

Inside the car in plain view on the back seat was a large amount of electronic equipment. There was also jewelry on the floorboard and in the driver’s door pocket. Several pairs of latex gloves were on the center console. Deputies found a flashlight in Urrego’s pocket and a screwdriver in Cuervo’s pocket.

When they checked the Seagull Avenue home, deputies discovered that it had been broken into. Access had been gained by prying a door with a tool like a screwdriver. Several electronic items, including a computer and DVD player, were missing. The total value of the missing items was $1,410, reports said.
