Teen Charged With Felony

The teenager says he went into an East Naples discount store to buy treats, but deputies say he treated himself to a customer’s purse.

Now Roodjery Roger, 14, 7839 Regal Heron Circle, Apt. 201, East Naples, is facing a felony charge in connection with the theft.

Reports say Roger pushed 77-year-old Jaqueline Tansey while she shopped at the Dollar General Store, 4903 Rattlesnake Hammock Road, around 3:30 p.m. on April 10. Tansey lost her balance and grabbed onto a shelf.

Roger, who had a cast on one of his arms, grabbed her purse from inside her shopping cart and ran toward the exit.

Customers chased Roger, who tripped and fell inside the store, dropping the purse; its contents spilling out.

Roger ran out the store and customers lost sight of him.

CCSO deputies located Roger on Tuesday and arrested him on charges of battery on a person 65 years or older, a felony, and petty theft, a misdemeanor.

Roger told deputies he went to the store to buy candy.
