Traffic Stop Leads To Cocaine, Arrest

A 25-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after a traffic stop in East Naples turned tense for a moment and then turned up cocaine, deputies said.

Raul Rodolfo Brito, 25, 2205 Greenback Circle, #304, East Naples, was charged with cocaine trafficking.

Reports say Brito was the front-seat passenger in a green 1996 Honda Accord that deputies stopped around 8 p.m. Friday for having illegal window tint.

The rear passenger quickly got out of the Accord and proceeded aggressively toward the deputy’s patrol vehicle. Fearing the man may be a threat, the deputy drew his gun and ordered the man to the ground.

While talking to the driver, the deputy could smell the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. When asked about the odor, the driver told deputies that her brother had smoked earlier in the day and that she probably smelled like marijuana.

A search of the Honda by a canine and its handler turned up a small plastic bag with cocaine inside next to the front-passenger seat, where Brito was sitting.

Brito is a documented gang member in Collier County, reports said.
