Caregiver Charged With Stealing From Patient

Deputies arrested a caregiver Thursday after they say she stole prescription drugs and a portable video game system from a patient.

Trysta P. Roffler, 37, 4060 32nd Ave. S.W., Golden Gate, was charged with grand theft and possession of a drug without a prescription.

Arrest reports say Roffler, a licensed practical nurse, was providing overnight and weekend care at the home of a patient with cerebral palsy.

The patient’s father became suspicious after he discovered large amounts of cash and his son’s prescription narcotics were missing. His son’s PSP game system and wall charger were also missing, reports said.

The father placed cash and change in a canister and marked the level of the money, checking every morning to see if any money was missing, reports said. Money was missing on the days Roffler was in the home, reports said.

Further investigation by deputies revealed Roffler gave the patient’s PSP game system to one of her children, reports said.

A search of Roffler’s purse turned up a bottle containing 44 doses of Naproxen, an anti-inflammatory drug, which was not prescribed to her, reports said.
