Two CCSO members have earned the Gallantry Star award for their actions in bringing about a peaceful resolution to a potentially deadly situation.
Cpl. Pedro Battle and Deputy David Christiansen were able to apprehend a man who was armed with a loaded handgun after developing a rapport with him and convincing him to put down the weapon.
Battle and Christiansen responded after a woman called 911 on Jan. 11, 2008, and reported a dispute between a woman and her adult son. Reports said when Battle and Christian arrived at the family’s Golden Gate home the son was sitting in the living room with a pillow covering his hands. They soon realized that he was holding a gun beneath the pillow.
Battle and Christiansen then drew their weapons. After the man refused multiple commands to show his hands and drop the gun he began to raise the gun toward the deputies. Battle and Christiansen again ordered him to put the gun down. The man complied, setting the gun down on the sofa. He was then taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.
The Gallantry Star recognizes the courage these CCSO members displayed while neutralizing this dangerous situation.
