Deputies arrested a man on a felony charge Thursday after they say he was illegally transporting diesel fuel in Immokalee.
Anibal Hernandez Lopez, 43, 3490 43rd Ave. N.E., Golden Gate Estates, was charged with unlawful conveyance of fuel.
Arrest reports say Hernandez Lopez was driving a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup that was traveling 60 mph southbound on South 1st Street, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph, around 10:30 p.m. when a deputy on patrol stopped him for speeding.
As the deputy approached the pickup he smelled a strong odor of fuel and could see a 100-gallon water container in the back of the pickup, reports said. The container was filled to with diesel fuel to the point that it was spilling over, reports said. The container was not state Department of Transportation approved to transport fuel of any kind, reports said.
A search of the pickup turned up a gas hose, an electric pump, a jack, and a GPS system, reports said.
Hernandez Lopez’s wife and 5-year-old son were also inside the pickup with him, reports said.
