A CCSO deputy headed off a potentially dangerous situation when a 48-year-old man charged at him during a traffic stop in East Naples over the weekend, sheriff’s reports said.
Kenneth Earl Parks, 3160 Collee Court, East Naples, was arrested and charged with resisting arrest with violence, concealing a handcuff key, assault on a deputy, reckless driving, and not having a valid driver’s license.
Arrest reports say Parks was driving a red Chevrolet truck that was traveling recklessly at a high rate of speed south on Airport-Pulling Road near the intersection with Davis Boulevard around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
At the intersection of Davis and Shadowlawn Drive a deputy in a patrol car activated his lights and sirens in an attempt to stop Parks. The truck turned south onto Shadowlawn and then attempted to turn west onto Linwood Avenue, but was traveling too fast and slid off the road into a ditch, reports said.
Parks drove the truck back onto the road and then slammed on his brakes, reports said. Parks got out of the truck and charged the deputy, who was getting out of his patrol car, reports said.
The deputy was able to manually restrain Parks and bring him to the ground, where the deputy placed him in handcuffs.
A search of Parks, a convicted felon, turned up an ankle bracelet with a “handcuff key” on his right ankle, reports said.
The passenger in the truck, Jameson Arsenault, told deputies that Parks’ last words to him as he jumped out of the truck were, “I’m not going to jail tonight,’’ reports said.
