Sexual Battery Arrest

A man who deputies say broke into a woman’s home in Golden Gate this week and touched her while she slept was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery, sheriff’s reports said.

Amelio Cruz-Perez, 23, 4205 Washington Lane, Golden Gate, was also charged with armed burglary and aggravated assault.

Arrest report say the 57-year-old woman told deputies that she was asleep in her bed around 3 a.m. Sunday when she felt something rubbing her genital area. She turned on her lights and saw Cruz-Perez run from her bedroom.

The woman said she didn’t call deputies because she was embarrassed, reports said. She locked up her house and went back to bed, reports said.

Around 5:30 a.m. Cruz-Perez entered her bedroom again, carrying a small knife and a wooden board, reports said. The woman told deputies that he made a sexually suggestive comment to her, reports said.

The woman told deputies she got scared and grabbed a broomstick that was next to her bed. Cruz-Perez then ran out of the house, reports said.

The woman identified Cruz-Perez as the man who touched her, reports said. Cruz-Perez also matched fingerprints obtained from the woman’s house, reports said.

Deputies located Cruz-Perez, who records show has multiple addresses, on Wednesday and arrested him.
