A 34-year-old man is facing a felony charge after deputies say he choked his girlfriend until she passed out during an argument in Golden Gate on Sunday.
Hugo Pavon-Merino, 2933 Tropicana Blvd. Apt. A, was charged with felony battery.
Arrest reports say Wilnelia Gonzalez, 25, told deputies that Pavon-Merino, her live-in boyfriend of two years, came home to their apartment around 1:45 a.m. and started arguing with her. He grabbed her by the neck and began choking her, reports said.
Gonzalez told deputies that she was able to break free from Pavon-Merino’s grasp and thought the argument was over, reports said. A short time later Pavon-Merino started arguing with her again. He grabbed her by the throat and choked her until she passed out and fell to the floor, striking the right side of her head on the tile floor, reports said.
Witnesses told deputies that while Gonzalez was on the floor, Pavon-Merino went around the apartment, punching out windows, causing broken glass to land on a bed where two children were sleeping, reports said.
