WHAT: Put The Brakes On Fatalities Day

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 10, 2008

WHERE: Throughout Collier County

SYNOPSIS: The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and the Collier County Transportation Services Division are teaming up to remind motorists to drive safely.

Friday marks “Put The Brakes On Fatalities Day” in Collier County. The day is an awareness effort to help keep motorists focused on their driving.

The National Society of Professional Engineers launched the day in 2001 as a multi-pronged approach to reducing road fatalities through road design; proper signs and improvements; vehicle equipment design and maintenance; and driver behavior.

Collier County has seen many road widening projects in recent years, providing drivers with more lanes and median crossovers that make driving safer. Among those projects are portions of Airport-Pulling Road, Pine Ridge Road, Golden Gate Boulevard and Immokalee Road.

CCSO deputies are on area roads daily enhancing safety through driver education and traffic enforcement.
