Deputies Block Theft With Arrest

A day of watching football on TV at a friend’s house ended in a man’s arrest on felony charges after deputies say he stole cash and winning lottery tickets, sheriff’s reports said.

Perry Dean Layne, 41, 1361 Trail Terrace Drive, North Naples, was charged with grand theft.

Arrest reports say Michael Best, 35, told deputies he invited his friend Layne to his residence at 5356 Grand Cypress Circle, North Naples, to watch NFL football on Sunday. Best and Layne watch football together every Sunday and Monday, according to arrest reports.

Best told deputies he had left $240 cash and $80 in winning scratch-off lottery tickets on his kitchen counter while he and Layne watched football in the living room, reports said.

Best said he left the living room and when he returned Layne, along with his money and lottery tickets that were on the kitchen counter, were gone, reports said.

Deputies located Layne at his residence on Tuesday and arrested him.
