'Practical Joke' Ends In Man's Arrest

A man who said he was playing a “practical joke” when he broke into a friend’s apartment was arrested early Tuesday on a felony charge, sheriff’s reports said.

Alberto Velez-Solar, 18, who arrest reports say is homeless, was charged with burglary.

Arrest reports say Carlos Romeso told deputies that he arrived at his apartment at 2571 47th Terrace S.W., Golden Gate, around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 29 and found Velez-Solar hiding in the closet.

Velez-Solar told Romeso that he entered the apartment through a bedroom window and was playing a practical joke on him, arrest reports said. Velez-Solar and Romeso used to be roommates at another location, reports said.

Romeso told deputies that he believed Velez-Solar’s story until Monday, when he and his live-in girlfriend noticed cash and two rings missing from the apartment, reports said.

Deputies located Velez-Solar in an apartment in Golden Gate around 12:30 a.m. and arrested him, reports said.
