CCSO To Support Special Olympics

Representatives of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, State Attorney's Office and City of Naples Police Department will put their best feet forward for the Collier County leg of the 31st annual Torch Run next week.

Participants will meet at the Collier County Law Enforcement Memorial in front of Collier County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, Building J, at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, April 20. The 7.1-mile run will get under way following remarks by Sheriff Kevin J. Rambosk at 8 a.m.

Local Special Olympics athletes will join in the run, along with past Special Olympics athlete and coach Michael Lynch, who has been running in the Torch Run for many years.

The runners will proceed to the city of Naples and then run up to the Publix store at 4601 Ninth St. N. in Naples. There are several stops along the way and vehicles will be trailing the runners in case they need help.

Last year, CCSO raised more than $3,000.

The focus of the local event is to bring awareness and support to Florida Special Olympics.
