Two members of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office helped rescue a horse stranded in the Caloosahatchee River on Monday afternoon.
Sgt. David Estes and Cpl. Doug Fowler were among the members of the Region 6 Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue Team (T.A.R.C.) who responded to a report of a horse in the river near Fort Denaud in Hendry County.
A team was quickly assembled and the horse was found on the north side of the river, where the waterway dropped straight down approximately 15 feet.
The horse appeared to be exhausted from swimming and the team decided to lift the horse from the river. The A frame and Haas lift were used to safely and successfully lift the horse up the steep river banks and onto solid ground.
Veterinary services where provided by Dr. Dennis Van Roekel.
