The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death
investigation that began as a call for service to a disturbance on Lakewood
Boulevard in East Naples at around 11 p.m. Monday.
When deputies arrived they found a man lying in a driveway
bleeding from the left side of his head. The man was later identified as Lonnie
Lorenzo Mostiller, 20, 755 Crestview Circle, Apt. 7, Immokalee. A Lakewood
Boulevard resident told deputies that Mostiller had just broken into his house
across the street.
The Lakewood Boulevard resident said he and his wife were
awakened by Mostiller, who was trying to force his way through their front door
while saying, “Help me. Let me in.” When Mostiller was unsuccessful at entering
through the front door he crashed through a dining room window and attacked the
male resident. Mostiller then jumped back through the window, exiting the
residence. He ran across the street and lay down in a driveway.
Mostiller was agitated and irrational when deputies arrived.
He kept trying to stand up despite deputies’ repeated instructions to remain on
the ground until EMS could arrive and provide medical treatment. He continued
to behave irrationally despite deputies’ assurances that they were there to
assist him. When EMS and East Naples Fire Department personnel arrived Mostiller
continued to be combative and scream for help as they tried to render aid. For
the safety of Mostiller as well as the safety of emergency responders, he was
placed in handcuffs. A CCSO deputy accompanied EMS personnel in the ambulance
as Mostiller was transported to NCH Downtown Naples Hospital.
He died a short time later at the hospital. All attempts to
revive him failed.
CCSO is conducting a death investigation.
