Drug Trafficking Operation Nets 16 Arrests, $120K Heroin

Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk announced Wednesday the arrests of 16 people and the seizure of narcotics including more than $120,000 worth of heroin, in a far-ranging drug trafficking conspiracy in South Florida.

This investigation, initiated by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, has been ongoing for almost a year,  and on Wednesday numerous significant drug traffickers attached to multiple organizations were arrested.

CCSO partnered with the Office of the State Attorney 20th Judicial Circuit, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and Miami Dade Police Department Homicide Street Violence Task Force to conduct the operation to arrest those involved in this drug trafficking conspiracy.

The conspiracy was not confined to any single jurisdiction. Arrests were made in Collier, Lee and Dade counties.

“The individuals arrested today are all part of drug trafficking organizations that have plagued the citizens of South Florida for decades,” Sheriff Rambosk said. “Some have previous arrests and others have evaded arrest.  Today’s arrests will severely impact their ability to do business in the South Florida area for some time.  Due to the amount of narcotics moved by this organization we believe we have made South Florida a safer place by removing these individuals from the community. “

Residences and vehicles were searched based on K-9 alerts, consent and search warrants. During the searches cash, currency, vehicles, firearms, and narcotics were seized at various locations.  There are some people connected to the organization that detectives have yet to locate and the warrants for them will remain active until they are apprehended.

The investigation into these drug trafficking organizations was launched in December 2014. Detectives seized or purchased just over 16 ounces of heroin, with an estimated street value of $60,800. Those targeted in the operation conspired to traffic approximately 33 kilograms of heroin with an estimated street value of $2.6 million, or the equivalent of 330,000 dosages. They conspired to traffic 15 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $525,000. They conspired to traffic 1 kilogram of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $32,000. And they conspired to traffic 3,000 oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $75,000.

On Wednesday, detectives were able to seize approximately 576 grams of heroin with a street value of $60,000, or the equivalent of approximately 5760 dosages; approximately 513 grams of suspected oxycodone pills with a street value of $85,000; and approximately 438 grams of Xanax with a street value of $15,000. Detectives also seized three vehicles, 10 handguns and one rifle (four of the guns were confirmed as stolen) hundreds of rounds of ammunition with a street value of approximately $7,000 and over $43,000 in cash.

Removing these criminals from our community has interrupted their ability to prey on people who have chemical dependencies or substance abuse problems. Over the next few days, deputies will be working with Collier County Emergency Medical Services, the local fire departments and the David Lawrence Center to make sure that any sick people and their families are aware of rehabilitative services in our community.
