The Collier County Sheriff’s Office is expanding its popular Hot Summer Nights event launched six summers ago to the cooler months.

More than 400 people turned out for the inaugural Cool Winter Nights event at Naples Park Elementary School on Oct. 23.

An even larger crowd is expected for Friday’s event at Corkscrew Middle School.

These monthly family fun nights are free.

Youngsters can jump around in the police car bounce house, go rock wall climbing and play Wii games on a giant inflatable screen. They can also check out the human foosball arena, a life-size version of the classic table game, or engage in a game of corn hole.

Families can also enjoy music, dancing and an opportunity to show off their talent on the karaoke machine.

The event also features hot dogs, snow cones popcorn and cotton candy.

The CCSO D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) car will be on display.

Visitors can also check out Drug Free Collier’s Hidden in Plain Sight Room, an interactive display designed to help parents recognize unfamiliar hazards that are often in plain sight. By walking through a simulated bedroom, parents learn to identify objects that could signal potential risky behavior such as substance abuse, violence, eating disorders, and much more.

The scheduled dates and locations of upcoming Cool Winter Nights events are:

Friday, Nov. 13, Corkscrew Middle School, 1165  Oil Well Road, Golden Gate Estates, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 22, Immokalee Sports Park, 505 Escambia St., Immokalee, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Cool Winter Nights is sponsored by CCSO, Collier County Public Schools, Collier County Parks and Recreation, Drug Free Collier, Publix, Wal-Mart, Boarshead, and individual community partners.
