Deputies arrested a convicted felon and confiscated a
loaded gun from the car he was riding in during a traffic stop in Golden Gate
Estates early Wednesday morning.
Deputies in a marked Collier County Sheriff’s Office cruiser
were patrolling Wilson Boulevard near 12th Avenue Northeast around
12:30 a.m. when they noticed items being thrown from the passenger windows of a
red Dodge four-door vehicle in front of them. Deputies immediately initiated a
traffic stop of the vehicle.
The four occupants told deputies they threw out cigarette
butts and a beer bottle.
Deputies received permission from the driver/owner to search
the vehicle. When they asked the back seat passengers to step out of the
vehicle, one of them, Yoandy Ledesma Carmona of Tampa, attempted to flee.
Ledesma Carmona, 29, was quickly apprehended. He resisted handcuffing attempts,
but was overpowered by deputies.
Further investigation by deputies revealed Ledesma
Carmona was a convicted felon and had two active warrants for battery/domestic
violence out of Hillsborough County. Deputies also discovered a black Smith
& Wesson .357 handgun underneath Ledesma Carmona’s seat. The gun was fully
loaded and ready to fire, according to the arrest report.
Deputies placed Ledesma Carmona under arrest for his
warrants. He was additionally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm
and resisting arrest without violence.
