Man Draws Gun During Hip-Hop Event

Two men were arrested and charged after one of the men pulled a gun after a deputy tried to remove him from an East Naples bar early Friday.

A deputy was patrolling the Captain's Cabin, 3380 Mercantile Ave., during a hip-hop event when a security bouncer asked for assistance removing a man from inside the bar. The deputy took Vernon T. Sowell, 28, Port Richey, but the arm and directed him to the front door.

Sowell began to resist the deputy outside of the bar, pulled a Glock handgun out of his waistband and pointed it at the bouncer.

The bouncer struck Sowell’s hand, causing the gun to drop to the ground. As the gun hit the ground, Marc D. Green, 28, who did not an address in reports, walked toward the gun.

Investigators spoke with Green and learned that he was the owner of the gun.

According to reports, Green carried the gun inside the bar and then gave it to Sowell.

Both were charged with carrying a concealed firearm. Sowell was also charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer with violence and possession of a gun by a convicted felon.
