Aluminum Thief Doesn’t Take No For Answer

A man was arrested Monday after deputies say he stole aluminum from another man’s yard in Golden Gate Estates, despite the homeowner’s warnings to leave the property.

Jesus Manuel Jaime, 49, 3014 Everglades Blvd. S., Golden Gate Estates, was charged with grand theft and trespassing.

Reports say Joseph Delrio told deputies that he arrived at his property at 3580 36th Ave. S.E. around 12:25 p.m. to find Jaime leaving the yard via a cut in the fence. Jaime was walking toward a black Toyota truck that was backed up to the fence near Delrio’s pole barn and workshop.

Jaime asked Delrio if he had any scrap aluminum that Jaime could have and pointed to an aluminum surveyor’s tripod that was lying on the ground. Delrio told him no and ordered him off the property.

Jaime got in his truck and drove to a guest house next door. Deputies arrived. Jaime told them he was gathering aluminum from the end of the street at the canal bank. Inside his truck were several aluminum wheels, along with aluminum aircraft engine pistons and other aircraft engine parts.

Delrio identified the property, valued at more than $1,000, as belonging to him.
