Beyond The Law: Housewares Store Worker Arrested

A Bed Bath & Beyond store supervisor was arrested Monday after deputies say she stole more than $12,000 from store cash registers after creating fraudulent refunds.

Sophia Susana Ramos, 25, 8215 Ibis Club Drive, Apt. 116, East Naples, was charged with fraud-obtaining property under $20,000.

Reports say store officials became suspicious when the store at 5351 Airport-Pulling Road in North Naples had a larger number of coupon adjustments than other stores in the district.

The store’s electronic journal revealed that Ramos was responsible for most of the coupon adjustments, totaling more than $12,000, reports said.

As a front end supervisor, Ramos had access to the cash registers. She performed fraudulent refunds at three different cash registers using a coupon adjustment code to obtain cash. Each fraudulent refund was identified by her employee identification number an override code which she utilized to approve each transaction, reports said.

Ramos created fraudulent refunds as far back as August 2007, reports said.
