Traffic Stop Nets Drug Arrest

A traffic stop in East Naples led to the arrest of a passenger on drug charges over the weekend.

Robert Roy Thompson, 20, 2060 River Reach Drive, Apt. 87, East Naples, was arrested Friday and charged with possession of cocaine.

Reports say Thompson was a passenger in a 1997 white Cadillac that deputies stopped because it was illegally stopped at the intersection of Belville and Berkshire boulevards around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Thompson told deputies that the driver threw an unknown item into the back-seat area before getting out of the car to talk to deputies. Thompson said he kicked the item under the driver’s seat.

A video recording of the traffic stop did not show the driver throw anything into the Cadillac, reports said.

A search of the back-seat area turned up an envelope with cocaine inside that was under a rug under, reports said. Thompson was arrested.
