Beer Run Leads To Arrest Of Career Criminal

A beer run fizzled Tuesday for a man who deputies say is a documented career criminal in Collier County.

Troy Sample, 24, 4526 7th Ave. N.W., Golden Gate Estates, was charged with petty theft, failure to register as a convicted felon and resisting arrest.

Reports say deputies were responding to the 7-Eleven store at 7445 Davis Blvd. which had reported that a man had walked into the store and then left with a small keg of Heineken beer without paying for it around 6 p.m.

Deputies in a patrol car found Sample walking away from the store holding a green keg of Heineken. Upon seeing the deputies, Sample dropped the beer and ran into nearby woods, but was quickly apprehended by deputies.

Sample told deputies that he drinks 30 beers a day and did not have any money to buy beer.

Further investigation revealed that Sample is a documented career criminal with two prior convictions for petty theft and had failed to register as a convicted felon.
