SUMMARY: Investigators said Szymanski grabbed a motel employee while brandishing a knife and attempted to rape her, according to sheriff’s reports.
Sheriff’s reports gave this account:
The employee told deputies she went to room 116, where Szymanski was staying, shortly after 1 p.m. and asked him if he needed any towels.
She turned around and walked to her cart to get him towels when he grabbed her from behind at knifepoint and tried to pull her back inside his room.
She screamed and tried to pull away from Szymanski while he tried to unzip and pull her pants off. She was able to break free from his grasp by fighting back and ran to the motel office for help.
When deputies arrived Szymanski pointed the knife at them in a threatening manner. He refused deputies’ repeated orders to drop the knife before throwing the weapon on the floor, reports said.
