In Memory

William Hutto Jr. lights a candle for his father Deputy William Ervin Hutto during a brief ceremony at the law enforcement memorial in front of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office headquarters on Sunday. Hutto was 7 when his father was killed in the line of duty. Deputy Hutto was 36 and the father of four children when he was shot by bootleggers near the Baron River after delivering Christmas gifts to youngsters on Dec. 24, 1931. Sunday’s ceremony marked the first time the younger Hutto, who now lives in South Carolina, had visited the law enforcement memorial. Photo by John Peabody/CCSO.
