Reuse, Renew

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office works to cover graffiti and Collier County Solid Waste Management always has discarded paint that needs to be properly disposed.

To solve both issues, the two organizations formed a partnership that benefits everyone.

Initiated by Golden Gate Cpl. Bruce Cordivari, CCSO is now recycling the latex and spray paints collected at the Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Collection centers to help cover graffiti.

This significantly reduces the expense for CCSO, which used to receive community donations or discounted paint pricing from local home improvement stores in order to cover graffiti.

Using the unwanted paint also saves Waste Management the expense of having to properly dispose of it later on.

Cpl. Cordivari is a liaison with the CCSO Street Gang Unit and its graffiti abatement coordinator, Cpl. John Pedrazza. Together, they locate graffiti and use the recycled paint to remove it.
