A Golden Gate man turned himself Monday afternoon after deputies say he was involved a physical altercation with his wife on Thursday, Nov. 26.
CCSO responded to 2569 44th Street S.W. after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident Thursday around 3:50 p.m.
Grisel Santiago, 47, told investigators she is divorcing Julio Carrera, 42, of the above address, and went to his home to pick up some mail. While she was there they got into an argument, she said, which led to Carrera choking her while holding her down on a bed.
Santiago left the home and contacted deputies, telling them that when she last saw Carrera he was holding a handgun threatening to harm himself.
Concerned for Carrera’s safety, deputies tried to convince him to leave his home. After several attempts, a SWAT team entered his home around 8 p.m. to discover he was no longer inside.
Deputies had been searching for Carrera since.
Carrera turned himself in at CCSO’s Golden Gate substation, 4707 Golden Gate Parkway, around 4 p.m. Monday and was charged with battery by strangulation, kidnapping by false imprisonment and aggravated assault.
