UPDATE: Estates Teen Charged With Manslaughter

UPDATE: Detectives were in the area of 47th Avenue Northeast and Immokalee Road on Tuesday continuing this investigation.


They canvassed homes in the area, interviewed witnesses and searched for a weapon. As of late Tuesday afternoon a weapon had not yet been located.

Also on Tuesday, additional details were released about CCSO’s initial response and the pursuit leading to Saavedra’s apprehension, which took place just 15 minutes after the reported stabbing.

Deputies and detectives from Patrol, Investigations, Youth Relations, and SWAT responded to the reported stabbing at 2:29 p.m. Monday. Cpl. Bonnie Bee arrived on scene at 2:32 and immediately began administering first aid until medics arrived. Callers said the suspect, later identified as Saavedra, ran southwest from the scene through a wooded area toward 10th Street Northeast. At 2:43 p.m. Deputy Allison Disarro spotted the suspect cutting through yards between 10th Street Northeast and 8th Street Northeast and running away from Disarro. Cmdr. Rod Bishop and Lt. John Morrisseau, who were responding in another vehicle, then drove through a field toward him. When they reached a berm they got out of their vehicle and ran toward him on foot before taking him into custody near 4340 8th St. N.E. at 2:44 p.m.

A 14-year-old Palmetto Ridge High School student was arrested Monday after deputies say he fatally stabbed a fellow student at a Golden Gate Estates school bus stop.
Jorge Saavedra, 4825 N.E. 20th St., Golden Gate Estates, is charged with manslaughter. Deputies say he stabbed 16-year-old Dylan Nuno as the two exited the bus near the intersection of Immokalee Road and 47th Avenue N.E. Nuno was transported to NCH North Naples where he was pronounced dead.

Saavedra’s arrest report and photograph will be released when they become available.
