Media Opportunity: Race Car Driver To Discuss Texting While Driving

WHAT: CCSO Teen Driver Challenge

WHEN: Saturday, April 21

LOCATION: behind Barron Collier High School, 5600 Cougar Drive, North Naples

TIME: 9 a.m.

SUMMARY: Collier County race car driver Michael Cenzi will talk about the dangers of text messaging while driving with students taking part in the spring semester of the Teen Driver Challenge.

The two-day course provides teens with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to reduce the chance of being involved in a traffic crash. The driving skills taught are the same techniques used by driving professionals, including NASCAR.

Cenzi is partnering with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in the agency’s safety campaign discouraging the use of cell phones while driving. AAA and The Auto Club South Traffic Safety Foundation are also partners in the campaign.

The campaign, which carries the message: “Stay Focused: Don’t Text and Drive,” seeks to bring awareness, education and the pursuit of legislation for a ban on texting while driving in Florida.
