Seventy-six out of 86 businesses visited Thursday during an underage alcohol enforcement operation properly checked IDs and refused to sell alcohol to minors.
The operation, conducted jointly by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and the Marco Island Police Department, focused on area convenience stores, drug stores, liquor stores and grocery stores. It was preceded by educational operations meant to help businesses and their employees become aware of their legal responsibilities when selling alcohol.
CCSO periodically conducts similar operations in an effort to prevent alcohol from falling into the hands of those who are not yet 21 years old.
During Thursday’s operation, 10 people were issued a notice to appear in court on charges of selling alcohol to a minor.
