Deputies say that a man lied about being robbed at gun-point in East Naples on Thursday.
Dennis Thomas, 46, who did not list an address in reports, contacted CCSO and said that a man, described only as black, put a gun up to his back and robbed him of his wallet.
Thomas told deputies that after the robbery he followed the man into some woods and was able to get his wallet back. He claimed that $57 in cash, his driver’s license and Social Security card were missing.
Employees at Labor Finders, 3305 Bayshore Drive, told deputies that Thomas came in looking for work that morning but was turned away because he could not provide a driver’s license or Social Security card.
After speaking with Thomas, investigators believed that he made the false report hoping that he could get his license re-issued and could then apply for work.
Thomas was charged with making a false report to a law enforcement officer.
