Deputies Investigating Robbery Outside Wal-Mart Superstore

A woman told deputies that a man with a gun knocked her down and stole her purse in the parking lot outside a Wal-Mart Superstore in East Naples early Tuesday.

Reports say Martha Bennett, 67, had finished shopping and was walking back to her car, which was parked in the front south parking lot of the store at 9885 Collier Blvd., around 12:40 a.m.

Bennett noticed a black van or sport utility vehicle that was low to the ground and had a flat back end driving slowly behind her, reports said. As she was putting her key in her car door a man with a light-color hooded jersey pulled around his face jumped out of the van and demanded her purse.

Bennette turned around and saw the man was holding what appeared to be a gun. She hit him with her arm on his body, agitating him. He grabbed her purse and knocked her to the ground, causing a bump and bruising to her forehead and scratches on her knee and fingers.

CCSO continues to investigate.
