Collier County sheriff's deputies are investigating a hit-and-run crash in Golden Gate that left a motorcyclist dead on Saturday when a pickup backed into his path.
Derek Christensen, 20, of 681 Seventh St. S.W., Naples, died at Lee Memorial Hospital.
The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. in the 1600 block of 40th Terrace Southwest.
A Ford pickup was backing up out of a parking lot at 1680 40th Terrace S.W. and going into the road. Christensen was driving his motorcycle north on 40th Terrace Southwest, approaching the parking lot where the truck was backing up from, deputies say.
The pickup backed up in front of the motorcycle. Christensen tried to stop, but struck the front right side of the truck. He was thrown from the motorcycle. Christensen was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the truck fled from the scene of the crash.
Christensen was flown to Lee Memorial, where he later died of his injuries.
The investigation continues.
