CCSO Shuts Down Third Grow House This Week

A man was arrested Friday after deputies say he was running a marijuana growing operation out of the garage at a home in Golden Gate Estates.

Richard Valera Hernandez, 34, 2475 Desoto Blvd.S., was charged with marijuana trafficking and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

The arrest marks the third grow house shut down by the Collier County Sheriff's Office this week.

Reports say sheriff's investigators executed a search warrant at Hernandez's residence after receiving information that marijuana was being cultivated.

A search turned up 37 plants growing inside the garage with an estimated street value of $111,000. Investigators also found marijuana growing equipment valued at around $5,000.

The Collier Sheriff's Office has shut down 12 grow houses since Jan. 3, seizing a total of 912 plants with a combined street value of more than $2.7 million.
