A Golden Gate man was arrested after deputies spotted his 5-year-old daughter alone, dirty, without shoes, hungry and thirsty outside a Circle K store late Tuesday.
Joshua Lamar Weaver, 29, 5312 16th Place S.W., was charged with child neglect.
Two deputies were in the 1998 Santa Barbara Blvd. store when they saw Weaver approach the clerk and ask for a drink for his daughter, who was waiting outside. One of the deputies went outside and saw Weaver’s daughter in a stroller in an area that is not visible from inside the store. She was dirty and was wearing no shoes. She had dried blood and dirt covering a cut on one of her toes. She told deputies she was hungry and thirsty and had had nothing to eat all day.
Weaver came out of the store several minutes later, but instead of checking on his daughter he walked to a car parked approximately 25 feet away and began a conversation with someone inside it.
When deputies talked to Weaver about his daughter’s condition, he was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred, reports said.
Weaver was arrested.
