Learn About School Violence

WHAT: School Violence Town Hall Meeting

WHEN: 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2008

WHERE: School board room at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Administrative Center, 5775 Osceola Trail, Naples.

SUMMARY: CCSO Youth Relations Bureau Capt. Tim Guerrette will present an up-close look at the ways the agency partners with the School District to combat gang activity, drug use, bullying and other risky behavior.

Children in Collier County and around the nation are exposed to violent video games, questionable computer chat rooms, easy access to alcohol and drugs, and pressure from gangs and bullies. But there is a lot adults can do to keep them from faltering. Working together, deputies, educators, parents and concerned members of the community can make a difference.

The town hall meeting, co-sponsored by the CCSO and the School District, will present trends in school violence, detail what is being done to fight it and outline what parents and community members can do to help.

The meeting is one in a series taking place on the topic this school year.
