Man Charged With Striking Another Man With Garden Edger

Collier County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Sunday night on charges he struck another man in the head with a garden edger during a burglary in Golden Gate.

Guadalupe Guzman-Felipe, 20, was charged with aggravated battery on a person using a deadly weapon, burglary and petty theft.

Reports gave this account:

John Maddocks told deputies that he was sitting on his lanai in the 1900 block of 41st Street Southwest around 11 p.m. when Guzman-Felipe climbed over his backyard fence. Maddocks yelled several times at Guzman-Felipe to leave his yard to no avail.

Guzman-Felipe went inside the garage without Maddocks’ permission and took a 5-foot garden edger with metal bladed teeth, along with a broom and a 5-foot broom handle.

Maddocks yelled again at Guzman-Felipe to leave his yard. Guzman-Felipe lunged at Maddocks with the edger.

Maddocks, fearing that Guzman-Felipe would strike him with the edger, grabbed him and they began to wrestle.

While they were wrestling, Guzman-Felipe struck Maddocks in the forehead with the metal blades of the edger. Guzman-Felipe then climbed over the fence and ran away.

Deputies located Guzman-Felipe around 11:39 p.m. lying behind a residence near a canal in the 4100 block of 41st Terrace Southwest.
