Robber Warned Victim 'Something Bad' Would Happen

A man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he robbed another man after warning him that something bad was going to happen.

Miguel Mendez, 29, 300 3rd St. S., Immokalee, was charged with robbery and providing fraudulent identification to law enforcement.

Reports gave this account:

Juan Paul Ramirez told deputies he was leaving Herrera’s Bar, 204 Boston Ave., Immokalee, around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 when he was confronted by Mendez, who was holding a bicycle chain and threatening him. Ramirez told deputies he recognized Mendez because they both work at a local packing house.

Ramirez snatched the chain out of Mendez’s hand and tossed it inside the bar. Mendez then got on his bicycle and peddled away, yelling, “Wait right here and see what happens to you.’’

Moments later Ramirez was attacked from behind by Mendez and unidentified man. The unidentified man held Ramirez by the neck while Mendez went through Ramirez’s pockets, taking money.

While Ramirez tried to fight off his attackers the unidentified man cut him with a knife along the base of the neck.

Mendez and the other man fled.

An investigation continues.
