CCSO To Enforce Seat Belt Law

WHAT: Click It or Ticket

WHEN: May 19 to June 1

SUMMARY: Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be watching motorists to make sure everyone is buckled up in cars when Click It or Ticket gets under way next week.

All vehicles will be a target during the annual nationwide safety belt enforcement campaign.

The fine for not wearing a seat belt is $73.50 in Collier County.

Safety belts save lives. Most of the people who die on Florida’s roadways are not buckled up.

So far this year in Collier, out of the 11 traffic deaths where a seat belt could have been worn, nine people did not wear one.

CCSO deputies wrote 2,731 safety belt citations, the second highest number of any law enforcement agency in Florida, during last year’s Click It or Ticket campaign.

CCSO is joining forces with other law enforcement agencies across the state, along with the Florida Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to crack down on drivers and passengers who fail to buckle up.
