Soccer Players Block Theft At EN Park

A group of soccer players blocked more than shots on goal at an East Naples park Thursday night, they also stopped a man who tried to steal their personal belongings, deputies say.

Jeff. L. Forrestal, 18, of Oakland Park, was charged with grand theft.

Arrest reports say Edgar Rodriguez told deputies that he and five other friends had placed their cell phones, wallets and other personal belongings in a pile underneath a tree while they played soccer at East Naples Community Park, 3500 Thomasson Drive.

Around 9:15 p.m. they saw Forrestal and two other men approach the tree, take their belongings and then run away, reports said.

Rodriguez and his friends chased Forrestal to the 3300 block of Thomasson Lane, where they tackled him and alerted deputies.
