An Immokalee man was arrested Monday after deputies say he stole a woman’s truck and had it crushed at a junk yard in exchange for $1,800.
Jose Torres, 35, 1015 Titus Lane, was charged with grand theft.
Reports say Maria Deleon parked her 1987 GMC truck on Camp Keais Road outside Farm Eg Mart in Immokalee on June 12. When she sent a friend to pick it up later that day it was no longer there. She reported the crime to deputies.
The next day Deleon called deputies and told them she had found her truck in Ashley & Sons junk yard in Hendry County, however it had already been crushed and destroyed. Reports said paperwork on file at Ashley & Sons included a sworn affidavit signed by Torres indicating that he was the owner of the truck and was selling it to the company for $1,800.
Torres was located Monday and arrested.
Reports say the truck was worth $6,000 before it was compressed.
